We say that times have changed
Yet the issues in the news
Remain the same
Three Muslims shot
Over a "parking dispute"
Yet the media news
Can't get to the root
Of the hateful crime
Committed by a brute
Too busy reviewing
Fifty Shades of Grey
While unjust crimes
Are carried out everyday

And why do we let ISIS
Receive so much fame?
And why is it that every
Muslim is to blame?
Associating a belief
With violence and terror
But it is among us
Where you'll find the true error

Using religious excuses
To **** off God's creations
Manufactured missiles
Sweeping entire nations
Thousands dead
With nothing left to gain
And those who survive
Are left with terminal pain

Seeing tears in the eyes of a mother
Her son buried deep
By the prejudice of another

How far will we go
Until we see the wrongdoings?
Cuz once a life is gone...
There is no undoing

Segregating humans
By religion, ***, and race
My beliefs may be different
But I am no disgrace

We classify ourselves
With things like melanin
As if our destiny
Is determined by our skin

Ignorance causing our vision to be impaired
Can't accept the unusual
Cuz we're too scared
Too scared of the truth
So we hide behind lies
Too scared of being left out
So we wear a disguise
Morphing ourselves
Into what is accepted
Turning into clones
Fear of being rejected

But it's time to wake up
Time to accept
The difference in our land
Time to end
The suffrage that is at hand
Time to unite ourselves as one
Time to put down the weapons
And put away your gun
So join me now
To spread the love
And to silence the hate
Our world may not be perfect
But it's never too late.
Decided to incorporate a few more lines to this poem.

"Mankind must put an end to war, before war puts an end to mankind."

I am standing right in front of you
Though I am a thousand miles away
My eyes are painted with memories
Of the time you said you'd stay
Of the time when I resided in you
When I believed everything you'd say
When I believed those starlit eyes
Telling me your words were true
Now my sight is foggy
And the glass lens that shield my vision
is shattered
From the time when *I loved you.

The Hue of Blue
 Apr 2015 AFJ
shelly
The hue of blue is much like you
with smeared beauty and grey eyes
and regrets as deep as the ocean
but through all the wonders and sadness
there's a bit of happiness too
and that is why you
are much like the hue of blue
this is lame af but thats okay

Cafés

There are days
when I sit alone in cafés
with coffee as my friend
and a book as my reason
for why I stay so long

Pretending not to watch
not seeing anyone
I stare at my book
and make out I read
when all the while
I sneak a look
I hear their talk

It seems to me
many are short on luck
so much dreaming
of all they can’t have
and some
have dreamed so large
it shatters their soul

I wondered why
I waste my time
love to stay
in the company of cafés
what was this fascination
turned to addiction?

I sit in cafés
because I need to know
I’m not the only one
it’s not just me
who is short on luck
not just me
who’s afraid to dream
not only I
who’s soul needs repair

You told me that there comes a time where you give up on yourself and when you do, your body gives up on you too. Tell me about the nights you would give anything. Anything to bring them back and see them smile one last time. Tell me about love, who would you call at 4 am when you're broken into so many pieces, you're not sure you can be put back together. Why don't you remember the colour their eyes? Tell me about the day you lay in your bed stealing all the synonyms of 'lonely' out of the thesaurus and writing them all over your body, tell me, who's name is on your mind when you're on the bathroom floor with blood stained arms and throwing up everything they ever said to you.

I'll never forget the nights of unfamilar feelings of heartbreak,
I was so young & hurt
3am I'd call you
You came & sat on my porch with me while it poured down rain
I cried
But you made me smile
I should have known then,
You were always there

There were days when I'd come home
And just as I've always known,
My mother would be breaking her teeth on ***** bottles
Lying on the floor
I'd call you
We'd go for a ride
Suddenly, everything was alright
I should have known then,
You were always there

That was just the beginning
You were my best friend,
And now I'm in love with you
I should have known then,
You were always there,
You were always the one

Get Lost

I wanna get lost with you
Just so we can find each other
I want you to find me
So we can save each other
I want to fall with you
Just so we can catch each other
I wanna chase you
Just so we hold hands together as we run
I wanna get lost
But first, that means you have to find me
Inspired by Henry Morgan speaking Heimingway
