No one is perfect
But tonight I'm gonna try.
This could be the beginning
To the rest of our lives.
Just give me one chance
to say what I was thinking
Just the other day.
I'm not the type to open up
and I'll be the one to show her love.
All it take is one look and
My thought process is shook.
So sing with me this chorus,
it hits hard right after this hook.

I see the way you look at me
And then I start to wonder.
Where you have been
For all this time.
I start to look back into your eyes
Then something inside me starts to vibe.
The kid inside me comes alive
And for whatever reason I don't let him hide.
The stars in the sky are starting to align
And we are watching the horizon
As the sun begins to rise.

We'll wake up and take a walk
Across this desolate beach.
We take talk about our dreams
We always thought were out of reach.
Take my hand and you'll start to see
Just how it feels when you're alone with me.
We'll start to slow it down
And possibly we'll see
Exactly what happens
When dreamers start to believe.

We'll take these days one at a time.
Maybe we will realize just how it feels
When two people who don't know each other
Start to fall into what could be
The start of something new.
We'll take a walk across this desolate beach
Where dreamers turn to believers
As the waves come crashing in from the sea.

Tell me what I did to make it feel this way.
I know that what I did was wrong
And I know it’s not easy to forgive.
I’m trying to find myself
In this sea of people.
I’m trying to find the words to say
Like a preacher to his congregation
Sit here with me so we can try
To make it through this conversation.

I just guess I don’t understand
How everything can be just fine
In one moment and over in the next.
I’m trying to find my place
In this lonesome little town.
I’m trying to find the words to say
To show you I have truly changed.
Truth of the matter is I don’t know
Exactly what to say, when the sun goes down
And the moon starts to rise.
Maybe tonight is the first night of my life
But like Johnny Cash I’m gonna walk that line
Cause right now feels like the perfect time.

You can tell me I was wrong
And I’ll concur that you were right.
This is one thing I truly will not fight.
I’m sorry for the things I did that night
When I tested our friendship
For the first time in my life.
I know things need to change
And now it’s my time to prove.
That I’m the guy I am
Because of you.

So sit with my outside in the dark
We’ll hear the sound of angels
As their hands sway across a harp.
The sweetest melody we’ve ever heard
I need to spread my wings and fly
Because I’m tired of living a lie.
It’s about that time I open my eyes
And see exactly why
You showed up that cold October night
To try to teach me wrong from right.
Just like Johnny Cash I’m gonna walk that line
Even if it’s the last thing I do.

I'm the one you'll run to
when there's no where else to go.
I'll be there to show you
The bright lights that compose a show.
So sing to me those simple words
you said so long ago.
The one's that always made me
melt like heated snow.
I can show you the world
through a new set of eyes.
So sing to me these simple words
I know you know the lines.

Take over my thoughts
invade most of my dreams.
They'll have a happy ending
just as long as you're still what you seem.
You take me by surprise every single time,
I look into your hazel eyes.
So take my hand and I'll be the one
To lead you home when there's no where else to run.
So let me be a runner baby,
Cause it's all I've ever known.

I don't just want to go through the motions,
I want to take this slow.
I want to show you everything that can happen,
When you let your heart just go.
You can tell me anything,
Of this I hope you know.
I know that it's so early
But I'm not waiting for the snow.
I'm trying to get this right
For the first time in my life.
So just take my hand
And we will run,
Run off into the night.

Just give me this one night
To show you I can get it right.
I'll show you what can happen
When you spread your wings and fly.
So just open up to me so that I can try
To show you what it's like
When things happen by surprise.

It started with a look
She said to me,
"Why do you think we do what we do?"
There was nothing i could say.
I was caught off guard
On this cold October day.
I started to realize what was going to happen
So I took her hands as she tried to say goodbye.
I looked her in the eyes
As I started to cry
And these words just slipped through my lips

When the rain falls hard against the window pane
Think of me and how everything used to be.
When the stars start to shoot across this deep black sky
Think of the love we share inside.
When the clouds open up and you can see straight to heaven
I hope you're thinking, thinking of me.

She started to cry as she walked away.
I thought I could be her hero
The one she always dreamed of.
I thought i could turn her from
Nothing more than a sinner into a saint.
She left me behind in the arms of no one.
She showed me just how it could be to feel so alone.
The rain hit ******* my car door
And it started to remind me of those words,
Those words that slipped so easily through my lips
As all those tears streamed down my cheeks.

When the rain falls hard against the window pane
Think of me and how everything used to be.
When the stars start to shoot across this deep black sky
Think of the love we share inside.
When the clouds open up and you can see straight to heaven
I hope you're thinking, thinking of me.

Yeah i hope you're thinking, thinking of me
When you get to where you feel you need to be.
Cause i'll still be here singing songs of empathy.
Everyone will try to offer sympathy
but I won't let them in.
I just hope that when the rain falls hard against your window pane
You start to think of me and you realize
That heaven was where you
Were when you were with me.
I'll sit here under this dark and stormy sky
And i'll be the one to write the tale
Of a boy that once knew a girl
Who he wanted to give the world.
Now all he has is this pen and paper
And the dreams that he can't seem to forget
But he's trying so hard to not remember.

It was about four score and 20 years ago,
the times were very different
and nobody seemed to know.
We lived our lives like fairytales
and what we saw on TV.
Nobody seemed to care that it was 1993.
Running around like a Power Ranger
while everybody stared at me.
then '95 rolled around
and Uncle Jessie is who I wanted to be.
It was a Full House with D.J. and the crew.
Kimmy Gibbler running around and Danny's on the news.
Everything just seemed so perfect
till TV turned us on to something new.

Take me back to the time when it was just you and me,
the TV was black and white
and our future was unforeseen.
Take me back to a time where everything was right,
Back to a time when problems were solved on Friday nights.

Next weeks episode the break the garden gnome.
No one takes the blame but everybody knows.
Cut to commercial, on the edge of our seats.
A bear talks about toilet paper,
our tension starts to heat.
We hear the little jingle and fall back into our seats.
The episode will end but there will always be next week.
It takes me back to TV land,
Gilligan's Island, everyone playing in the sand.
It's crazy just to see where we are now.
Gun's and *** all over the screen, people laying dead upon the ground.
So if there's one thing I want from you,
it would be easy for you to do.
Just take me...

Take me back to the time when it was just you and me,
the TV was black and white
and our future was unforeseen.
Take me back to a time where everything was right,
Back to a time when problems were solved on Friday nights.

You may not believe me
But I will tell you anyway.
You took me out of my comfort zone
You let me be me.
For the first time in a long time.
You are the one that opened my eyes
You let me see the stars
In this dark lit Oklahoma sky.
You are the one that has got me
To right where I need to be.
So now let me take you somewhere
That you have never been.
You opened up my eyes
For the first time in my life.
You lead me into a world
And let the sparks ignite.
Tonight there’s fire in my eyes
As I look up at the sky.
Then I start to wonder
Where you have been
For all my life.
You sit me down and tell me
That everything will be all right.
I sit here and wonder
How we got to where we are now.
We sit on the fifty yard line
Of this old football field
And let our thoughts
Just drift away.
As I sit here on this old field
You turn to me and say
Let me take you to a world
Where no one has ever been.
Let me walk you slowly
Through this place
Where your dreams can come true
And the wounds your heart has sustained
Will stay glued shut for the rest of time.
You opened up my eyes
For the first time in my life.
You lead me into a world
And let the sparks ignite.
Tonight there’s fire in my eyes
As I look up at the sky.
Then I start to wonder
Where you have been
For all my life.
Let me take you to a place
Where the street lights shine
And a place where you’re all mine.
This place must be what they call heaven
Cause all of my wildest dreams
Are slowly starting to come true.
Aaron Gill Jun 2012
She has dark brown eyes
and a smile that would make the angels sing.
He sits down right next to her
and grabs her hand as he starts to sing.

Tell me what you thought of
when you first saw me?
Was i just another boy
in the background of the scene?
Or did i strike up something in you
that could make everything
seem like God's honest truth?
Tell me what you think of
when you think of me.
Cause lately all I think of
is how to make you happy.
Let me show you a world
where everything you see is real.
A place where no one else can go
and we can run for the hills.
Let me show you a place
where dreams constantly come true.
Cause for this first night
it's all about me and you.

She shed a single tear
and the last note left his lips.
She knew exactly what to say
but couldn't find the words to fit.
She looked straight into his deep blue eyes
and wiped that single tear from her own.
She looked at him and said
come on you know the words.
She grabbed his hand
and to his surprise she started to sing.

Tell me what you thought of
when you first saw me?
Was i just another girl
for you to come and sweep off her feet?
Or did i strike up something in you
that could make everything
seem like God's honest truth?
Tell me what you think of
when you think of me.
Cause lately all I think of
is how to make you happy.
Let me show you a world
where everything you see is real.
A place where no one else can go
and we can run for the hills.
Let me show you a place
where dreams constantly come true.
Cause for this first night
it's all about me and you.

They dropped the guitar
and headed for the door.
Out into the world
for everyone to see.
That so much can come
from just looking deep
into someone's eyes.
Cause if it's only for tonight
as least they can say they tried.
Aaron Gill Jun 2012
The night starts off with a bang
She enters the room
And the spotlight starts to change.
It hits her as she walks through the door
An aisle splits down the center of the dance floor.
She starts to walk towards the stage
And then the music slowly plays.

The lights go up and the music plays
She dances around this tiny place.
The spotlight fades and she quickly turns
He’s never seen someone with such grace.
He grabs a mic and starts to pace.
His lips open up and he starts to sing
A song about a forgotten place.

Tonight we gather in this dance hall
Everyone is looking for a way to let their feelings out.
It takes two to tango and I think I’m ready
To sweep you off your feet.
We’ll count the steps as one, two, three
And act out a story between swaying bodies.
A small twist here and pirouette there
Is all it takes to make this kids heart start to race.
So let’s start this off with a twist
and end it with a dip
As we start to move you’ll feel the rhythm
Start to move you as it takes control of your hips.

They dance the night away
And he continues to sing.
All this dancing has all
But burned a ring into the floor.
They keep moving circles
Counting out the steps
As one, two, three.
That final move will be one
That will forever remain in history.
He lifts her to the sky
And then she starts to see
In his arms is where
This dancer was meant to be.

— The End —
