Darkness is my solace, soothing my soul
When the sun mocks me with its radiant light.
WildFire Oct 30
I'm lonely when the sky is bright and blue.

When the breeze tries to whisper through my hair,
I wish it wouldn't.

When the sun tries to brighten my face,
I wish an eclipse would darken the skies.

Then the birds try to drown out my thoughts with their endless songs and the flowers ask why I don't admire their pretty petals.

It's too bright. Too noisy. Too colorful. Too....alive.

My mind is only at peace in a world of darkness, stillness, and quiet solitude.

Let me recede into the dark, hazy corners of my soul I call home.
Let me rest.

I often wonder who would care
If I melted away into the lurking shadows,
Among the dark ghosts from my nightmare.

It desperately pleads with me as I turn it between my fingers.
It knows what I'm contemplating; dreading its own death, a slow sinking to the murky depths.
It's time to follow through;
A quick flick of the wrist and the deed is done.
I imagine my flat stone screaming in terror as it skips across the lake's tranquil surface.
My imagination is twisted.

The world sees her brave face, but inside, there's a scared little girl hiding away.

Ink
You're the reason the ink bleeds across my page.

Let me go, like letting the ribbon slip through your fingers, your eyes watching the balloon dance in the breeze before disappearing into the clouds.

Just as the moon pulls the ocean in on itself,
So have you caused my heart to recede into its darkest corners.
The once glittery trails of moonlight on the glassy waters
Are replaced with the dull reflection of what used to be.
And what we used to call love, we now call just a memory.

Worlds collide, intertwining
For a period of time
Until the connection is lost.
Then break apart,
Whirling into separate orbits.

Remember our song?
It tiptoed through the tall grass.
Twinkling stars sang along,
While we danced barefoot in the moonbeams.
Lyrics of lies woven from tales of passion
And unfading love led us astray;
Lost in each other, and lost in the naive illusion
That our song would last forever.
Fireflies glanced over, flashing their warning lights
Before carrying the melody far away.
I hear that song still, all alone on starry nights,
Floating by on the cool breeze.
I remember.

Funny how much a pretty face
Hides what goes on inside.
No one catches the faint trace
Of tear stains on the cheek.
No one sees the lost spark
In the stormy eyes.
No one notices the mark
Of sleepless nights.
No one sees the disgrace
That troubles the heart.
But they all notice the pretty face.

I've innocently followed love's treasure map.
It's led me to explore caves and dead-end cliffs, nearly falling to my death.
Though the gleaming treasure I've never found.
