She stayed up in her high tower
Not knowing if she should come down
She was warned that the world outside was dark and dreary
But the tower within was as well
She had a choice
To choose which demon she wanted to dance with
The one with in or the one out
No one else would tell her
So she was left to scream, and to shout

And I wonder, "Am I just the glimmer in the river reflecting someone else's light?"

She lets you hug goodbye
And squeeze the happiness from her mind
For she knows,

To see the love run out in tears,
To glance at the wished-for-death nights
And scream-less screams of grief.

And leave your sorrows in her heart
for she is aware,
You won't be there to notice
the pounding thoughts of never enough
Or the way the circles under her eyes
are the only smiles she gives

And never glimpse back
For she can tell,

Bodies caress in a whirlwind dance
Dusty nicotine plumes pack the atmosphere
Alcohol drips into the vein
Stories converge into none
Worship of the ages has begun

She convinced herself she was in love with the idea of love
And then forgot about him

She sent him a clutter of
thoughts
books
And feelings
But in the end she realized
He didn't care
He had already lost interest
And was looking forward
to his next affair

When he glances at you
                                         do you notice fire raging passion in his eyes?
Do you see a  calming rainstorms
                                                    or a sturdy mountain to rest your mind?
Do you glimpse a castle of wonder
                                                             or knights of protection?
Do you spy a galaxy of love
                                                 or a promise for time?
Do you see anything in your man's eyes?
