The snow will be melting soon,
Can't help but wonder what is in store,
The boys all work so hard in the yard,
Tossing 'round lumber and abuse,
But I got these soft hands,
I've been sleeping around trying to match up my shoe,
Born with such thin skin,
I concede to tumble with the leaves.

I saw her late last night...
She is a parasite... for these sore eyes,
I try to make it hide,
It bubbles over if I have a little bit too much rye.

Wishing is for fools,
But I guess I always did rush in for you,
Carpentry tools,
Let's build a bridge to burn on the evening news.

17
When I was 17
I drank too much and only thought of myself
Now I'm 23
Not a ****** thing has changed
And I'm ****** just the same.

If I work all **** day
At least I'll play my nights away
If I stumble to your doorstep
Can you make sure I get home okay?
Either way, I'm ****** just the same.

Some hearts are hard to hold
I can barely stand mine, I can't handle yours
She left me shaking in my boots
Like I'm 17 years old
Either way, I'm ****** just the same.

Went to sell my soul
Met the devil at the crossroads
He said "I can't help you son,
No one would ever want that soul.
But I'll see you soon,
'cause you're ****** just the same."

Heard a-knocking on my screen door,
You screamed up "It's me",
Funny how the flowers bloom in the back 40,
Makes me wonder if the daisies know what lies beneath,
Second guessing if the juice is worth the squeeze,
Maybe I don't know.

Last I caught wind you bought a gun and headed south,
But a .38 can sure weigh someone down,
The old fisherman said he'd weep for her no more,
Spent the rest of his days safe on the shore,
He didn't shed a tear.

Two miles in the dark,
Keep turning keys hoping for sparks,
Nothing left tonight just look up at the stars,
I don't remember much...
Though I remember a-knocking on my screen door.

Easy-going energy moguls at Exxon Mobil,
Insidiously sip scotch in their ivory towers,
They take no blame for the blame is ours,
We, the worker bees, were employed to **** the soil,
Little did we know it was the hallowed ground under our very own families feet,
Now we look towards our homes and see nothing but ash and hell fire,
Our collective youth and countless hours of precious life,
Traded for false abundance and counterfeit wealth,
When it all burns will you still care about your bank account?

Puddles form to mirror the very sky that they fell from,
The sharp talons of the trees explode with colour,
After being cleansed with the kiss of spring rain,
The fragrance of resurgence is pushed to and fro,
Warm southern wind came thousands of miles to cool your face.
Reborn, wet, and in bloom.
Nature demands growth.
...I am dry but for the hole in my shoe.

Pastels and pretty pictures,
I lean back in the couch,
The elephant in the room,
She'll never know about,
How the critics wail over the way the paint falls off her brush.

I would rather drop-dead,
Than ever talk about
That night back in 07'
Teeth flying out my mouth,
But I think you would've liked me better then anyhow,

                                                                              I'm curious...

                                                        I'm curious...

                                                                           ...I'm curious....
                              ..Cause
                                           I
                                              just
                                                     wanna
                                                                  see
                                                                        what
                                                                                 makes
                                                                                             you
                                                                                                     tick

Each year he writes a note
and leaves it in his room,
Key lime pie, Saturdays at the zoo,
Reminiscing flashbacks of better fast food,

Dead the day,
He scurries home in the dead of night,
Dragging his will, whats left, shaking off the frostbite,
Volunteers to play drunken clown for another night,

I think of their eyes and everything that they've seen,
Nothing that I see could ever be unique,
So don't you lie and say you see it shining in me.

                                                                              I'm curious...

                                                        I'm curious...

The only thing I asked for,

One year ago, on this day,

Was to not have another,

I guess that's not the way life works.

Happy birthday to me.
