Alone Again
Zach Shappley Sep 2017
There’s nothing poetic about it
A broken heart
Precursors are set
Gut feelings long before anything takes place
Something instinctual sits in your stomach
Your insides turn into a witches brew in a cauldron
As anxiety boils up
It’s coming and nothing can subdue this unstoppable natural disaster
This isn’t hurricane or a tornado
There is no possible way of out running away from the carnage that will soon ensue
The heart is tied to the tracks and the bullet train is right on schedule
The call comes
Being understanding is courtesy
Words released under each breath do not match the ones lingering in your head
But you don’t speak your mind
How could you
It ends and the heart along with it

Cabin of Thought
Zach Shappley Nov 2017
If the train stops along the way
We could disappear for a holiday
Get lost in the wood
Build a cabin, should we?
Modest and comfy
Nuzzled in the corner as a fire sets
The smell of pine
Fills the lungs
Books read are the ones we wrote
No other minds but our own
Lost in eyes
Another layer commences
Transcendence into a pocket dimension
Dialogue through blank stares
All that is needed there
This cabin of thought
The one we devised
Could be visited at anytime
Both you and I hold the keys
Meet me there whenever you think of me

Tut-tut
Zach Shappley Sep 2017
The breeze is brisk yet filling
It compliments the sun that is soon crowded by clouds
Birds are singing a familiar song
One that reminds you of the time when you were a boy
A time where skinned knees and vampires were your only worries
When the spiders created in your mind haunted you in the shadows
But the comfort of your parents’ bed always calmed your spirits
To be bathed in innocence and only see the beauty in God’s world
An imagination so exuberant the most visionary of writers coveted it
You long to be writer too
And the weather is glorious
Too bad it looks like rain

Eating Alone
Zach Shappley Jun 2017
Loneliness eats away at the soul
It dives deep into its caverns
Infecting every inch
Not doing so in a rushed manner
No, loneliness bides its time
It allows you to enjoy the solitude at first
But overtime you dread it
It ***** away everything that is pure and good
It fills you with sorrow
Tells you daylight will never come
And you believe it

Melting Glaciers
Zach Shappley Sep 2017
Blue eyes distract the sunshine of your smile
Drawn in with the teasing “shut up” look given
Dark blonde hair cut just beyond the shoulder
Almost childlike
Takes you back to a childhood crush
It feels the same
Moths dance around the glow in your stomach
Sweltering heat slices through the body
Paralyzed in the moment
Wanting to run while never wanting to leave that presence
Eyes still pierce you forcing a gleeful smile
Natural, pure the laugh that emerges from the stomach
Forces one across the chasm
As the giggling ensues the gap closes
Until the two collide
The feeling is full

She, the Brightest Star
Zach Shappley Nov 2017
Light touches the edge of the sky
Which bursts forth to your lips
Lips that mustn't be tarnished or burned
Charred orange rays struggle to find figure
Overpowering them with a flash of a grin
Followed by a sweetly scented titter
A sonic melody that melts insides of all around
Matter drips up into the horizon
Embellishing the the beam further along
Brighter
More vibrant
A dying star
Seeking a new lifeforce
Commensalistic relationship is needed
The light found her
Needs a lot of work, but here's a rough draft.

Smells
Zach Shappley Jun 2017
Your sweet scent of roses and pomegranates
Fill the air
Intoxicating the room
Once everyone gets a whiff
They gag
The smell is fine
But it reminds them of you.

Black Seeds
Zach Shappley Jul 2017
Dirt and grime plaque the soul
Selfishness torments the heart
To the point where it no longer feels
The brain cries out with insults
This process brings others down to its level
Falling from grace takes time
The demons enter slowly
Through substances
Through friends
Through foes
Evil isn’t always visible
Evil isn’t always violent
Sometimes it lurks in the shadows of the alleys
And it never reveals itself
Evil hides in the darkest corners of your mind
But only peeks out when you’re at the brink of destruction
There’s darkness in all of us
Just don’t let it take control

So Long
Zach Shappley Jun 2017
If you want something bad enough
You will make an effort to obtain it
You don’t want me
You choose others over me
You make no attempt to seize me for yourself
I am not someone who waits around
My patience is short lived
Just like you and I

Rainwater
Zach Shappley Jun 2017
The rain comes and goes
It leaves life in its departure
When it leaves and the clouds roll back
I am sad
It almost seems mother nature wants me to move along
To stumble back outside
Into a world basking in sun
But still living under storms
I wish for the rain to return

Smother Me
Zach Shappley Jun 2017
The anxiety she causes me to feel when she walks into a room is suffocating.
Not in a good way,
In such a way that I wish someone was truly smothering my face with a pillow.
A cool pillow being pressed against my face would be more comforting than this.
Please leave.
