Cigarette (un)
Phiness Guzman Sep 2014
i took one deep breath,
and exhaled you out.
for you are my favorite,
but you are toxic.

p.g.
you, my dear, are my cigarette. i love you, but you are slowly destroying me.

for when a poet loves,
Phiness Guzman Oct 2017
Never love a poet so much,
for she will build her world around you.
She’ll contrast you to the sun and stars;
she will love you so.

She will give you lovely notes
to brighten up your day.
You’ll find it a little weird
but you look forward to it, anyway.

Never love a poet so much,
for she will invest a lot in you.
She will become the person you’ll only ever need
without taking a lot from you.

She will take you to places,
and make you experience things
within a room's four corners
and her words as your wings.

Never love a poet so much,
for even after all those things
she will take away her love,
and leave you without a trace
with her heartache as her fuel
for another masterpiece.
a poet leaves.

and if, my love, you need be
to chase thy dream and leave me be
i'll be patient, doing my own chore
as i wait for your knock on my open door
because i am waiting for your return, i miss you.

My life is a series of "do this" and "do that",
Not actually doing what I really want to.
They say it's for me, it's for the best and whatnots,
Everything's more of what I'm expected to do.

Then came a reckless boy who called my life boring,
That was something I wasn't really expecting.
The first experience he gave me was a piercing,
He changed the way I see life, not even knowing.

I hope we'll be okay soon.

I am white —
Happy and bright,
I am black —
Gruesome and dark,
I am yellow —
Adventurous and mellow,
I am green —
Sinful and mean,

I am blue —
Peaceful and true,
I was red —
Was in love then bled,
I am transparent—
I'm prone to attachment,
And I am Cyan—
I want this done.

separated by distance
atop by the hills
both lulled by lullaby-es
of un muted absence.

sea of blue irises
smile slowly wavering
  time's not enough
she longs for his brown eyes.

in the chime of their hope
from the blown dandelions
and 11:11 wishes
all but for naught.

as the first rain sprinkle
on them under the night
still hope, still wish
on the stars that twinkle.

You are my dauntless sword;
Gleaming iridescently in light, and in the absence of it.
Enticing my wistful eyes with your intrepidness,
before chanting, "My hero of sorts."

You feathered my growth with fairy tales and mendacities,
Always winning agaisnt the evil that you made me believe.
You were the tenacious tower who locked me out of peril,
I was the naïve, gullible, stupid damsel who believed all of it.

smoking (deux)
Phiness Guzman Aug 2019
this is a habit that I know I must stop,
inhaling and exhaling the fumes around the clock.
but I couldn’t really help it because,
it’s the only way I could think of doing
to somehow feel your presence back.
you smoked all the time, and the scent of cigarette makes it feel like you’re still here.

You burn so bright,
(that sometimes it scares me
you'd burn yourself
and explode)

blinking rapidly in the absence of the sun.
And the thought of
not being able to hold you,
when all I ever wanted was to own you
breaks my heart.

I Witnessed My Own Death
Phiness Guzman May 2017
Salty air and dark night,
The moon illuminates the sea.
The tides clash with the rock,
and 67 ft above, there's me.

Right step, left step, right step, left...
Is there no one to stop me?
I think about the times my heart wept,
and said, "no, I wanna take this flee."

I stand at the edge and fall forward,
For a moment I feel free, I fly.
The air around me felt nice, oh god..
"I take it back, I don't wanna die--"

I will forever treasure the night
that we had in our drunken stupor.

It was a blur but i remember it clearly.

For it was one of those times
where the troubles dissipated
for a moment.

The giggles and cuddles
that only the strangers, the streets
and the moon witnessed.

It genuinely made me happy.

*You make me happy.

I took a liking to you
because you were
my escape from reality.
But you, yourself,
are starting to become
unreal, intangible; a fantasy.

Though you have only been here for a short while,
you’ve shown me a glimpse of your wondrous mind.
You made me see beauty in every speck of every mile,
and I will always compare you to all the beauties I find.

I could only think of
your sweet voice,
because i have no
any other choice.

i can only imagine
your eyes and your smiles,
that i wont be seeing,
again in a while.

I could only hold
my thoughts of you,
cause it’s impossible
to hold you.

because even if i wanted to
it’s not that easy.
because right now,
you’re a lifetime away from me.

Trapped, locked and helpless in our own cities,
It's like between us there are galaxies.
We create supernovas; our own fall from grace.
In the absence of time and presence of space.

But the universe unites us in an eclipse,
In the correct timing our orbits will be bent.
We'll make up and seal it with our lips;
A beautiful astronomical event.

Does it feel better now?
Phiness Guzman Aug 2017
Does it feel better now?
That I'm no longer there,
To ***** you about how
I am stressed and tired?

Does it feel better now?
That I have no longer have
the power to control you,
and the friends you should have?

Do you feel better now?
That I'm no longer in your head
and that you can now have
the freedom you always wanted?

Do you feel better now?
That I, who always made you feel alone,
have left your life in peace,
with your music and friends at home?

Does it feel better now?
That I'm no longer gonna ask you,
to make me feel better again,
by stressing, and draining you?

And does it feel better now,
That the sweet words you used to make me feel good,
Are now used by you to others,
To feel better somehow?

She'll be all made up the next day.
Try hard as she might,
She can't and will no longer stay.

Our Wall of Memories
Phiness Guzman Jul 2020
These bedroom walls had heard a lot about us;
our stories as we talked about our dreams,
to the simplest things like how our days went,
your awful but funny singing every time you sang to me,
Embedding a love ballad on my wall.

These walls had witnessed a lot of what we did;
seen me seek your comfort every time my parents fought,
watched with us during our movie nights,
and seen how we spent our nights tangled between the sheets.
—it got pasted with pictures of our memories together.

These walls felt a lot of things;
our pain when we started spitting venomous words,
When you drowned yourself in beer, it felt the remorse in your heart,
Our loneliness as we cried making sure we were unheard,
and felt our care slowly dissipate as we began to drift apart.

These walls heard the tune of our love
—until it got quiet.
These walls hold a lot of our stories,
and by painting it in blank white,
I’m silencing our wall of memories.
Road to acceptance step 2: Trying to relive our memories, from the good ones to the worst ones.
