tear down their thrones;
take back your crown,
with blood upon your teeth.
oh darling, change your shape;
for within you there is a wolf.
you were born to howl,
and to serenade the moon.

the empty cascade
Cassia Jackson Oct 2020
they tell me that we’re made of stardust,
but i don’t feel like something so glorious.

i feel like the dark side of the moon,
like the space between worlds,
like the howling void,
and the empty cascade of dying suns.

i feel like silence,
like i’m screaming with no one to hear me.

like roses
Cassia Jackson Oct 2020
there are girls made of storms,
and girls born of fire;
but the ones I love best are roses.
they’re beautiful, with thorns,
and roots that reach deeper than the winter frost.

the universe will sing
Cassia Jackson Oct 2020
I could be your queen,
your starry night,
your midnight world and all the cosmos...
Yet all good things must end.

When the sun rises, I will fade,
disappearing into the dawn.
Weep not, I will return, once night emerges -
and the universe itself will sing.

red looks good on you my dear;
like sweat and sin upon your skin,
and things best not spoken of in polite company.

fight like a girl
Cassia Jackson Oct 2020
they tell me I fight like a girl.
I don’t. I fight like a woman.
But thanks for the compliment.

phoenix (and the flame)
Cassia Jackson Oct 2020
I’m going to shatter like glass into a thousand, thousand pieces;
and then I’m going to put myself back together again.
Just like I always do. Just like the phoenix and the flame

entropy of a soul
Cassia Jackson Nov 2020
first, you lose your voice.
then you begin to fade; like the moon, as the sun burns it from the sky.
your sense of self grows small,
as if it's locked away, in a place between worlds.
you're not you anymore; just the ghost of summer as winter freezes the world.
i think this must be like the collapse of a star: silent, yet screaming.
and in space, there is nobody to hear you.
