Gladly, gladly
Sadly, I will go
Slowly, death valley
To reap what I sew

Ache, awake-
The sun is setting low
Break-bind stake
Bury me in the snow

To lament, to forget,
Sever all your ties
Complied threats: mere regrets
Masked in perfect lies

Gladly, gladly,
Madly- to and fro
Sadly, badly
Find me in the snow.
I might try to build onto this later. Please let me know your thoughts!

As I have come to understand
Writing is a way of making sense of our own souls and all of our madness,
Bound by a pen, chained by the hand
Composing black ink at timely conventions of our sorrow and malice.
Please let me know your thoughts

My blood is a toxin
Toxic like wine
The ink from this pen
Is duly mine

Your name is a drug
My drug and my wine
My body was your temple
Now become a shrine

The harlotry is my venom
The venom is my wine
And for all that I may account
I know I've walked the line

The whisky is my poison
The poison is my wine
And I find it warmer here
Beneath the dying brine

Now my thoughts lay bundled with twine
And here I am, fresh out of wine
If there's poison in the wine, then hunny I'm drunk

A ******* affair is common here
In a cemetery of sorts
We share a commonality of fear
Under siege of this final court

Where ash is finer than honey
And blood is a finer wine
And blood moons are just as sunny;
For where you die, there you dine

If pumpkins are a fable
And black cats are a muse,
Then we remain unstable
With none left to abuse

As darkness is a scary friend
I have never known a kinder foe
This void preaches a bitter end
And will follow wherever you go

There is a madness along this bend
And when it’s half passed dark
If you hear our drums: prepare for the end
Prepare for your embark.
I know it’s august but gosh **** it I want Halloween

Mountainous caverns
And cavernous depths
Plague and pillage taverns
Bridle beleaguered breaths

Forward the hour
And hoist the scattered skies
Time not to cower
Behind blatant lies

Prepare for the downfall
As the mountain gives way
Gruesome, thunderous brawl
Is my death in this day

If an avalanche is hell
Then I am surely home
Brokenly beaten and well:
Where chaos freely roams

Forget not our rise
For we are not our sins
But saints in the skies
Banefully, ****** kin

I am a vagabond in hell
And a vagabond: I am free
As heaven rings a final knell
While the mountains collapse for me

Charming endeavors harbor pain
Melancholic facades are dull and dim
Rage seeks only by plot of gain
Only hope remains by the morning’s whim

Hope is a welcomed nail
That bled my soul awake,
Resilient to the vale
And makes the mountains quake.

Hold fast to the stars-
Forget not our plight!
Gold are our scars:
Black in perfect light.

Forget nothing- but everything
Will always be a hopeful blunder
I have never known a sweeter sting
Than the hope that throws me asunder.

While I am not a casualty
I hide behind the transparency of blame
My name is the name of privilege
When privilege is confronted with a name.
My objective reality
Still remains subjective to a forgotten claim
While the prejudiced are still pillaged,
As privilege and prejudice play a deadly game.
I wrote this a while ago, following the tragic shooting of Charleston Church. Please let me know your thoughts and insights on my writing.

There’s a raging storm inside my head:
An all too familiar home
For my mind is my grave and my bed
For the ruins of my Rome

As the tapestries of my sky
Obliterate the canvased sea
The wind howls in a fluent lie
“As you were, you shall never be”
Please let me know your thoughts and insights
Madeline Harper Aug 2018
We do not give up the Renaissance for an ardent lie
We do not rise to meet the gods only to be slain by the earth
Even time does not falter for every zealous eye
Even the heavens rise and fall in every death and rebirth
Madeline Harper Aug 2018
“I am a shallow presence among a sinking sea
Harboring every sailor sent from Galilee

The captives roar from the depths of those caverns
Sorrows known only in the devils tavern

That night, I was abruptly stolen from this dream
As my nightmares danced and my soul began to gleam-

I feared every shadow that lays beyond this realm
For at the gates of reality, shadows are at the helm.

-But love is as transcendental
As death does plow
As much as the thorn is gentle
Upon my brow

Timely tales unravel my gaze
From your splintered skies
As you remain stagnate through this haze
Living solemn lies

No correlation remains
But only what you observe
Sinking seas and pillaged plains
Bound to your every nerve

Does the sea question the celestial?
Or the heavens question the stars?
As a rich man knows he is *******?
Or as the slave counts his own scars?

I assure you, I am as unchanging
As your solemn lies
As the sinking seas are forever raging
Oh child, you will rise.”

As these forlorn cadences await- unfold
To compose a disbanded vow
Yielding unto harrows of gates untold
Charms death to disdainful plow

Death is plowed to a forgiving halt
While silver moonlight and whiskey dances remain
Glittering gold in this crimson vault-
Feeble souls conjure grace as graceless minds abstain

Counterfeit conceits ravish this open cellar
As the night’s last dance ceases to a disgraceful plea
The dweller’s disdain is akin to my killer
And heaven yields blood to salt the earth for thee

Come away now with your anguishing defeats
Seek not a jagged spike as the heaven’s conspire and wake
Glory and gold may turn us black as deceit
But deception admonishes the dancers in their quake

Spellbound nuances of this reality await at every turn
Mourning and fighting the finality of this grave
Orchestrated knives are rosined like honey, beckoning our blood to burn
At last, a burning reckoning comes to ravage the brave

But refrain, oh killer- host of this crimson vault
Enlist a memoir for our sins
Recalling the pieties of our gracious faults,
Enough to make this blood go thin.
This poem was abstractly written to describe a scene of death among ballroom dance and the last dancer responsible for the tragedy.

I am only an ocean, a great rage and the ever-sinking sea
Lamenting every marred sailor forged in the waters of Galilee

No more shall sailors mourn a forgotten plea:
A ransom for hell, where devils run free

Forgive and forget
But never forget my eyes
The rage you lament
Remains lost to solemn lies

You are only now, only here, and solemnly mine,
For what is brimstone but ash beneath the dying brine?

You are my sword, my heart and my final lament and plea
Forget not my mind lost to hell’s every subtlety

There is only rage that awaits among this sea
Forever pining for a ransomed eternity.
"Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers  have swept over me." -Psalm 42:7 (NIV)

Oh redemption for redemptions sake
In every fold and every ache
Come to aspire and set my dreams a fire
In every redemption, therein a liar

From that soft and shallow plain
The effervescent storm still remains
Where stars are etched on my shore
It is only your name, and nothing more
Madeline Harper Aug 2018
Faultless lines of an abject realm
Compose, ignite and overwhelm
My soul coarsely brined at the helm
Where devils dance and I am free-

If I am to lie at shallow breath
Sharper still, to a dull smoke of ****
Forsake, adjourn my rage in my death!
And heaven’s halt by false decree-

I know an ocean’s rage is a fire so rare
That these dreams stifle me only a prayer
An empty trespass of the ocean still flares
This realm: a door, my mind: a key-

There is no such soul as the sea
Where devils dance and I am free
And heaven’s halt by false decree
This realm: a door, my mind: a key
And the ocean’s rage as I flee-
Please let me know your thoughts and insight! I’ve been having repitive dreams and I’m writing to understand what I’ve been feeling through this constant dream setting.

Indebted shadows prey on a prayer
They drink up their glories and sins,
While contending for souls so rare
And endow nails upon my skin:

Clever born,
And silver to the bone.
Now mutely grey in tone.

Win our war in Rome!”
They break,
They lie,
And never came home.

Please never,
This threat
I sever,
Too clever
to lie.

Faulty sins hoist a ****** banner
While goodness is only a trend,
And foes are convenient in manner
Convenience: a conclusive friend.

Too clever to lie
What a convenience am I
Am I: your conclusive friend;
Answer as to why
You raise the stakes high
When you have no soul to lend?

These feral thoughts lay scattered
And lay waste to an endangered mind
It seems thorns only mattered
When they were blooming and I was blind

As I’ve seen, dreams are a virtue
While reality is a cross-
The former nails the good and true
While the latter is a mere loss

These virtuous thorns plague me
When I go lay the cross to rest
While these thorns pillage kindly
And seek a curse to heal the blessed

If dreams are ash, then a soul is fire
Onward still! We will burn before the dark
As thoughts are a haze and minds are liars
Yet, burning thorns always carry a spark.
I’m trying to practice writing while I’m back in school, please let me know your thoughts!

A crippling rage may endure
At the faintest hour still:
A cancer to ease the cure
May yield to a kinder ****

To yield to deception
Only forges a sword in water
And lies by exception
To all of the martyrs who faltered.
I may want to build on this later on, but please let me know your thoughts.
