Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream:
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
Sitting alone day by day
Feelings of hope slipping away
Anxiety knocking on the door
Depression bringing me down to the floor

"Everything will be fine, no need to worry now"
I hear everyday with reasonable doubt
They see my pain and notice it too
As I sit in the corner of the room

People never care
And then they dont know why
Why some of peoples biggest wishes are to die

at midnight
my hair had been a tangled mess
pulled back in a bun

at one a.m.
it had been a wave atop my head
greasy but beautifully dramatic

at two a.m.
it had been a nuisance, oil at the roots
but i said i looked too pretty to take a shower
(that’s such a funny and sad reason)

at three a.m.
i got the idea to cut it
i said, “i need a change, talk me out of it”
and you tried; thank you for that
but even so

at four a.m.
i cut my hair

and i didn’t feel any different.
i cut my hair to feel something and i just feel the same. it’s like that, sometimes. at least it looks okay. no complaints.

I love you ferociously
With the anger of protection
The heart of a lion
The soul of a unicorn
Indulged your every fantasy
Secrets kept between you and me.

Drive with me
Hold my hand tight
I’m about to put my foot down
And we’re gonna disappear into the night
No cares no worries
No eyes to see or know
What I’m gonna do to you
When we park in a deserted canyon road
Kiss me deep, kiss me true
Kiss beneath the wavy blue
Empty sky, what will we find
Come with me
and I’ll blow your mind

Back when I was young my father told me:
That I’d grow up, and I would be lonely,
But not to go, chasing Cleopatra,
Or else I’d die just another bachelor.

He said;

“Oh those pretty girls, there are so many,
Just look around you and, you’ll find plenty;
When you’re hurt and broken by a lover,
Amen, don’t worry, just find another.”

I said;

“Daddy, what if none of them love me back?
What if I’m alone, when the sky turns black?
What If all I am, ain’t what I could be?
It’s hard to find wisdom, but not misery”

He said;

“Son don’t stress, there’ll always be someone
Looking just for you. You: their only one.
And don’t ever worry about heartbreak,
The road to love; it is made of mistakes.

So, count your fingers and count your blessings,
Invite Cleopatra to your wedding.
Never love ‘til you don’t have to chase it,
But when you do, don’t you ever waste it.”

The clock ticks
She’s stiff as a stick.
She counts the seconds going by
Pressing her fingers into her thigh.
She feels the woman urging her to talk
She watched her skin turn white as chalk.
Her mother forces her to go
Her counselor thinks it’s good
But her recovery is slow
And here she never felt understood.

The metal chair squeaks at the girl
She wonders why the girl is mute
She wants to comfort her, pat her hand
But instead takes her pen to write a note.
She has good intentions, she wants to help
What she doesn’t realise is she cannot help
The girl trapped inside the little girl
That’s sitting right in front of her.

These two minds don’t think alike
She won’t listen anyway
To some of the strategies and advice
Offered to her night and day.
She has one side only, her dark side
That she is quite happy with.
What is the point of getting better
When her life will be nothing but bitter?
