She had a refined air as she looked at the man. He was  a soldier, and a footman. He was someone that lived on the ground and knew suffering alone. She was a princess, the heiress of a multi- Billion dollar industry. She would never understand him, and that is why she held him so tightly. She looked in his eyes and saw solely pain. She whimpered in silence, knowing that she would never be able to help him.

She thought back to when the two had first met: she had started an online profile on a chat site, and soon thereafter met him. She lay into him, telling this soldier everything; saying she wanted to escape the senseless life of politics and business. As the two talked, he too, had opened up.  He told her that he wanted to escape war and the life of horror that awaits him. As she pondered their first conversation, he finally speaks. He kisses her forehead and looks at her, his eyes covered in the solace of a lost soldier. He was a man touched with death, having the knowledge of his own curse.

He looks at her with eyes filled of darkness. His eyes shine in the mirthless laughter of the darkest night. His body tightens as he begins to explain why he had to go yet again to war: "You know not the truth of this world. I am a soldier, I will always be a demon that haunts in the night. I am a being cursed with suffering. I cause only destruction and the fortitude of death. For me, there is no silence. For me, there is only desolation. Cesarie, we will always live in different worlds. I fear that you will never know me again, for this is my last fight, this is the true nature of the soldiers curse." With that, he turns from her, content to remember her smiling face, and warm *****. He had lived in her touch, this woman that he had once solely known online. "Goodbye, my love", He says as he walks into that with which he had once been most comfortable with; the night.

With tears in her eyes, she watches as he retreats into the night. Praying in desperation, she looks at the moon, she pleads: "Please return him to me, make sure my Asher returns safely."As he finally left into the darkest reaches of the night, her tears fall with every mile he walks. She cries out, no longer holding her agony: "Forgive me, my love. I could not save you from war. I will never hold your hand to ease your burden. You shall always know death, and I can not take that from you. You will always see pain, and I can not kiss those nightmares away. Your strong fate has already been written by the Gods. You will be as you always have been...

A Soldier."
