When you’re waving your pets favorite toy in front of their face And it’s so funny because they’re so excited And you’re holding all this power in your hands because you know that when you throw it They’re going to chase that toy. And if they lose the toy, you know how sad they’ll be. Being a woman in America is like being that pet. And there’s this man holding your freedom in your face Never knowing whether or not he’ll throw it.

Being a woman in America
Going to college and pretending like i’m an adult this year has made me realize im always going to need MY mom. Because she’s kind enough to give grace to those who don’t necessarily need it. Shes smart enough to give me unbiased advice (even though i’m her favorite person). She’s generous enough to buy christmas gifts for my friends. And she’s caring enough to let me come home when i’m sick or burnt out and make me feel like my troubles are miles away. She’s the best mom in the world, and she makes my brother and I feel special simply by being there. There are some people in the world that you just know were meant to be parents, and she’s the epitome of that. Now that i’m older, I know that her nurturing nature and patience are rare, and not everyone has the privilege to experience such a bond with their mother. I thankfully do, and with the best one out there. Sometimes I feel like I need to apologize to everyone in my life for being exhausting, but my mom makes me feel normal, and that’s enough for me. Growing up I was told I was a daddy’s girl through and through, and I am. I love my dad, but I also love my mom. She’s the first person I text with good or bad news. She’s my best friend, savior, therapist, and mom all rolled into one. I wouldn’t be here without her. And I think i’ll always be the little girl who screamed when someone tried to take me away from my mom.
