You are not your name. Nor your weight or your height. Your age can’t hold you back. You cannot be defined. Beneath it all Deep in your heart That is what defines Who you really are. The choices you make The chances you take The words you speak The things you say The way you dance Like no one’s there. The songs you sing When no one cares. Thoughts in your mind Love in your heart The sparkle in your eye And the way you laugh. The tears you cry When no one knows. The sadness you feel When you’re all alone. The mistakes you’ve made The lessons you’ve learnt The stories you’ve read And what you’ve written. The dimples in your cheeks. The freckles on your nose. The way you always blush While smiling at the ground. The adventures you had And those to come. The made-up songs You tend to hum. Your sleepy little snores. The snorts in your laugh. Every flaw that you possess Makes you different than the rest.

Who You Are
He told her she was special; That he’d never break her heart. He’d stay with her forever; They would never be apart. She trusted his words, Not once having doubts. But little did she know, It wasn’t her he cared about. His love was warm But it held no spark. And when she needed him most, He would leave her in the dark. With deafening shouts, he made it clear. His love for her had disappeared. And once he knew she understood, He slammed the door and left for good. His words were empty. His love had been a lie. Yet still he holds her heart Even after the last goodbye She knew it would happen, Truth be told. But not once did she think He could be this cold The signs were there – Clear as day. She took no notice And trusted him anyway Despite being broken She knew she’d heal. For if love could fade Then so could pain.

His Love
We live in a judgemental society Where the real you is only abstract. From a young age we are taught to believe That only society can define how you act. From the moment we enter the world We are forced to sign a contact. Torn away from freedom of opinion We begin our journey with no way back. Beauty overrules personality Money defines your future Being intelligent is a crime And standing out makes you a loser. The paths you choose to follow Always end the same. There is no way to escape society Because we all have been chained. People are ridiculed for being happy But called weak when sad. We dare not share our views For we’d be labelled as mad. We live in a judgemental society Where no one seems to win. Forced to be someone society defines, The real you fades within.

A Judgemental Society
The sparkle in her eyes held joy. The warmth in her cheeks held life. But the wide smile beaming across her face Was nothing more than a mere façade. Hidden behind her joyful mask Confined within the palisades of shame Lingered a fragile porcelain soul Consumed with grief and pain. Not once did her smile drop Not once did she dwell in distress For greater than the weakness inside Was the dignity she possessed. Her mesmerising laughter echoed throughout the day knowing her sobs would return that night again. With tear-stained cheeks she lay in her bed Millions of thoughts rushing through her head. Every morning she woke with a smile But through her eyes you could see her soul. Held together with strings of pride She refused to reveal the happiness they stole She lived her life giving so much Her deepest wish to please them all. Living a life that was not real Her strong façade began to fall. Her hopes and dreams had disappeared Reality becoming all she had feared. As time went by her flame started to dim And the chances of her survival were looking quite slim. She stared into the distance with dead eyes Wondering if they’d care enough to say goodbye. With a deep sigh she accepted the truth Deciding to end it all despite her youth. With a pen she decided to finally confess Why she had to escape this mess. Folding the note she left it there Hoping that someone might just care. Emptiness had consumed her frail soul And after one last sigh she fell into the hole. Darkness encircled her falling figure As she faded away and pulled the trigger. Her arms were thin and bony Her skin – pale as death The sparkle her green eyes had once held Disappeared as she took her last breath.
