My name is Patrick. Child of the 70's and 80's. I grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I have a B.A. in English with a concentration in professional writing. Only recently, in the last 2 years, I started writing poetry and short stories. / / I have played saxophone since 1981 and a lot of what I like is inspired by music; it is the only thing I love more than writing.
I stop a moment
to pause
on the cusp of the new year
this is when
I empty the drawers
to make them ready
to accept new items
remembering again
that if **** came out
then **** went in
what's next
is just
out of sight ahead
as remnants of dated
songs drift through my head

Even though
I don't want to
I still do
need you
in my life
and I know
your sweet harmony
won't let me be free
if
I choose to
resign
myself
it's about my liberty
I don't want
to love you
but I still do

Dancing on the rim
skating on thin ice
roll the dice
try not to fall in
I can feel
the surface tension
as I make a cursory
pass by your
inner being
in turn
I become
a slave
to the
event horizon
that bonds
us
in heart
and mind
in a perfect
sphere

Mystic percussive
sounds drifting
as
bare hands
pound the tabla
increasing rapidly
with reckless abandon
the triumphant frenzy
signifies
a jubilant freedom

At times
oceans of memories
flood my steadfast
moorings
yet still...
my soul
is in hiding
as the undertow
of the day's
reality
pulls me under
and pummels
my senses
leaving shreds
to be mended
at a later
time
and place
