I write to escape from the perils of thinking too much.
Tip, tap, tip, tap. Words on a screen Colors flashing vividly bright Blurred eyes once keen Squinting at the offending light Tip, tap, tip, tap. A façade of fame Silence in the form of lies Another false claim Behind the screen’s guise Tip, tap, tip, tap. The keys robotically pressed Lips creased; a wry grin Typing as if possessed The mind; a downward spin Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap.

A single man, a single thought A body left and meant to rot A silent shout, but never heard Were the parting lips of a final word

Suicide
Bliss Is a star Born from light and good Through dark and sorrow A star shines true Submission Is a lonely moon Cursed to follow forever Its planet, its taker, Its savior, its master Humility Is an asteroid Spinning ‘round and ‘round Happy to do its part No matter how small Jealousy Is a black hole A dark and angry monster Steals away all light, All hope Love Is a comet Adventurous, new, and bright Loyal to its wild path Sweetly coloring the sky

Emotions of the Universe
I was walking through the woods one day when I saw a peculiar thing. A shark flying through the air without a sail or wing! He stared, he did, and so did I He was looking at me with a glare in his eye. I nearly died on the spot with fright but still I kept my head; I quickly rummaged through my things and found a rope instead. With one graceful swing, I lassoed the beast- A thing that did not please him in the least. I laughed at his face and he rolled his eyes, But I could tell he was accepting his demise. I climbed onto the shark and I’ll never forget How we rode past the trees and into the sunset.

A Shark in the Woods
My love of nature is only surpassed By the sheer magnitude of its own grace. Its playful creatures, its leaves em’rald cast The gleam of the sun, the moon’s brilliant face. I waltz through the wood, my heart aflutter; The dappled shadows whisper at my heels, Butterflies float past in a sweet mutter, Fallen leaves caress the ground it conceals. Admiration bubbles up inside me, Similar to a babbling brook in June, The thrill of nature seems to set me free; I fall into the soft grass as I swoon. Here in the wildwood I can reminisce Of times when everyone knew of life’s bliss.

Memories of the Forest: a Sonnet
The girl on the hill Sitting quietly under the stars as they sing The night sky is as dark As a raven’s wing The girl beams, Her smile as brilliant as a comet’s tail, I call to her, But to no avail So I go, silent as an owl, instead Sitting with the girl on the hill The moon looms overhead And the night is still She gazes at the sky, as sweet as a dove “Look about you” is her gentle command As she sweeps the starlit sky With a wave of her hand The girl laughs and speaks Of the stars over yonder Her voice as mellifluous as song Lulling my senses as I wonder Is Earth an only child? What’s beyond the sky? Is there life out in that world Where the stars lie? As the girl finishes her yarn, We reflect on our simple dreams She rises as slowly as the tide The girl is wiser than she seems I stare at the sky, Answering the stars’ beckoning call I smile like a child and say, “Earth sure is small.”

Dandelion
All my life I was allowed to appreciate the world around me But lacked the means to express how I could speak of the fluttering of a starling’s wings Lifting into the majesty of the sky By stirring the air But you would not understand The loneliness they stir in me I could describe the stature of the far-off mountain The snow-ridden summit stark white Vehement in its unyielding presence But you would not see The spark of vehemence I feel in its wake I could illustrate the way the sun sinks behind the hills Staining the clouds orange and pink Causing a blanket of soft light to awaken the earth But you would not recognize The nostalgia it awakens in my tired soul I could narrate your mannerisms with clarity The gentle smiles and nervous fidgeting Shyly nodding in mild acquiescence But you would not notice The utter joy that holds me under its sway As you lull my heart with your words

I Cannot Express
A masquerade, that’s my existence I wear a pretty mask and keep my distance Those who take notice flock to me But it’s only my mask that they see Afraid of my own visage, I Embellish my façade and lie I remain clinging to this foolish hope That through these fallacies, I’ll cope Tears and pain and hate stowed away Behind a mask with a brilliant array A careless comment knocks my mask loose In mortification, I sob and mutter an excuse This pathetic person cannot possibly be The lovely mistress you thought to be me Without my mask, I’m an evident mess Opulent not in beauty but in stress Avert your eyes, this is my ugly truth The witnesses sneer, “How uncouth.” So, I beg of you, please, I implore Leave on my mask you so adore.

My Life is a Masquerade
I hate the manner of the lilting song My heart plays when your presence graces mine You step so gently as you waltz along Stars dance in your eyes as I reach cloud nine No, wait! This false love is quite misguided I know your facade deceives from your flaws The painted smile you wear has subsided And your gait slows as you come to a pause The smile you wear is as fragile as glass Unallowing of others to assuage The vexing fears and pain that you amass Your negativity kept in a cage I beg of you, let down your walls for me Let this cynic be as sweet as can be.
