when i grow up i want to be a hero
Nothing is going to stop me
Ill be a firefighter like my daddy
Just you wait and see.
My daddy is a hero
It’s plain to the eye
He puts out fires to save you and I.
Sure he gets angry
But thats cuz he’s tired
He has a really cool job
And doesnt want to be fired
(Get it? Fired? hehe)
Mommy came home
with tears in her eyes
I didnt understand
Usually im the one who cries
My daddy WAS a hero
His pictures on our shelf
He saved many many lives
But couldn’t save himself
He had a hard job
He saw lots of things
He kept it all inside
Now he has angel wings
when i grow up i want to be a hero
Nothing is going to stop me
Ill be a firefighter like my daddy
Just you wait and see.

One word. Repeat it three times. Watch the world stand still. A brothers down.
Everything on the fire ground stops. Everything. Everyone holds their breath so that maybe, our brother could have a little bit more.
Smoke fills the sky, flames still crackling. The word everyone wishes they’d never hear, the moment that can define, defy, and divide an and entire station, entire family, an entire life, that moment lasts forever.
Forever is a scam. The person you thought would be with you till the day you retired is suddenly a memory clouded by grief. The only thing that lasts forever, is the feeling you got when he said those words. The only thing that lasts forever, is the memory.
But a mayday doesnt have to be called on a fire. In a job where someones most traumatic day of their life is just another Tuesday, you need to talk. ******* it up gets you nowhere. It’s like a map that gives you every direction you could possibly go but no x marks the spot. If you’re in trouble, call mayday, a brother will help you. If you’re falling, call mayday. A brother will pick you back up again.
Even if you dont know what to say. One word. Repeat it three times. Help is on the way.
