A fire rages inside.
It wants to consume
like an ancient god,
long forgotten,
feeling the soot
of sacrificial smoke on its skin.
It yearns for bygone rituals,
warm hearts offered
like fruit by trembling hands.
Yet it is the same fire
that kindles words
in a poet’s mouth,
the same flame
that cradles fragile clay
inside the womb of a kiln.
A warmth that births
a thousand realities.
Self-immolated, burned to the last bone.
Something stirs in the ash—
a god remembering his name.

Pouring sweet peony tea
into my half-empty cup
until it spills past the brim.
One hand tries to catch the overflow,
the other hand pours steady,
delighting in the flood
of this floral aroma.

Raindrops fall
Sadness walks on
wet pavements passing along
old houses.
Emotions stir
Memories crawl like
dark clouds slowly reaching for
the remaining light
July rain
You are both sad and beautiful
just like a song somewhere
in the gallows of my thoughts
Just like the cold on my skin
Just like her.

How can I not love you?
For when your head is high up in the clouds
Free, unchained, holds no bounds
Drifting on endless blue
Towards the crimson afternoon
In a palette of pastel hues and gray
'Cross the canvass of our last summer day
Spilled sunset and water blooms
How can I not love you?
When the autumn breeze wraps itself around
The coffee cup warmed with traces of your hand
Melts to a morning dew
Blotching the sheets of white
Unfinished letters scattered like the sands
In a desert of aimless thoughts, profound
With oasis in sight
How can I not love you?
When your eyes burn like an ocean of stars
That swallow the winter lights asunder
Drowning all in view
All but the crowning trees
That spread their elegant twists in glory
Of imitating your hair, now tell me
How can I not love you Denise?
