She closed her eyes and dreamed
Not for man
Or fortune
Or time,
But only
To feel the rain as it fell
To watch the sun as it rises
To enjoy the green grass at her own feet
And to sit in the wonder of existence as it is

Luck noticed her in pennies, the number five, and wind chimes
But only by observing the skies, and a little passage of time, was it discovered in herself

Today her mind would not sit still
Not a task was done
Nor a thought complete
She paced
Doodled
And doddled
But she remained wired
Till the sun set
And she grew tired

She walked into the words
Letting the pages settle between the covers
And hold her in their embrace
She found herself tucked between the many characters and their ways
And allowed her mind to wonder into a world that was everything but her own

She lost herself in strength
In the idea that she needed to be mighty
to be great
Forgetting that holding herself in gentleness
Adoring her curves
Basking in relaxation
Was just as powerful

There are four kinds of men in this world
The Pirate
The Merchant
The Lord
The Dead
Not one of them knew how to sweep

Alluring
Then Tragic
Once darkness weaved in

There once lived a bundle in her head
Stuck behind her ears
Wiry, grey, and mad
It buzzed around
Sometimes just existing
Other times,
Demanding attention
She talked to lots of her friends
About what it could be
Eventually
She discovered the answer on her own
It was her control
And once she learned its name
She found its leash,
Unclipped it,
And let it free

She imagined jumping in the water
But she thought she might drown
So she decided not to
She imagined walking in
But she thought she would get bitten
So walking she did not do
She thought she would dip her toes in
But it might be cold
So she walked passed
And
Slipped instead
Falling shoulder first
Into the clear blue pool
It was everything she did not imagine
Warm, welcoming, and extraordinarily peaceful

And to think
A handful of years before
She was plucking flowers for daisy crowns
Singing around bonfires
Playing with brothers
Swaying to melodies with her lover
Laughing with her own father and mother
The weight of the world on someone elses shoulders
And many dreams left to follow
