I'm a retired singer/songwriter/pianist in southern gospel music. I've shared the stage with many of the Gaither Artists you see on the homecoming vidoes. I've written songs for The Hoppers and other mainline groups. I am enjoying my day's off now from the road...although you can still here my music on youtube under Sammy Lee/ or Sammy Lykens...Hope my poems will enspire you when I get a chance to pen a new one.
If I could I would take you by the hand
And lead you to a place of understanding
To where your days were filled with joy and love
And if I could I’d mend your broken heart and give you peace
And pray you know it comes from God above
I know you’ve had your share of pain and tears
And I’m very much aware of all your fears
Too many sleepless nights
And hope is not in sight
But friend the Lord is still upon his throne
He never slumbers, never sleeps
His promises he keeps
And one is that he’ll not leave you alone
If you’ll just lean on him
In the end you're sure to win
Don’t ever fight your battles on your own
Let’s you and I agree
And together we will see
That nothing is impossible with Him
So my friend today’s the day
Just turn to God and say
Victory shall be mine, with God I’ll win

Should the Lord return today would you be caught off guard and would you find it very hard to tell him how sorry you were that you didn’t feel the need to ask him into your heart perhaps because you didn’t feel worthy to bother him or feel that you didn’t somehow measure up. We all have felt that way at some point in our lives, but Jesus knows everything and nothing is unseen and he longs for us to come to him as a child would go to his earthly father for comfort and love. When God created man he desired to have fellowship with him thus so he longs to have personal intimate fellowship with us. Have you ever stood at the foot of a mountain and was overwhelmed at it’s beauty and just know that you had nothing to do with it…Only God could have done it…and then on a clear spring night, have you ever gazed up into the heaven’s and see the stars all scattered into place, perfectly designed to make the night sky a magical carpet, and to think he knows them all by name.
I could go on and on but I think you get the drift here…and as it says in the word, God created the Heaven’s and the earth and all that is in it.
One man said to me.. I don’t believe in the Heaven you sing about and I don’t belive in God or Hell….and he said what do you think of that…I said your asking me…? So without hesitation, I said well sir, if your going around all of your life proclaiming that there is no God, no Heaven or Hell…when it’s all said and done….”you’d better be right”..
The gentleman lowered his head and just walked away…
In the end we have to be right with our maker to enter the kingdom of God…he came as a sacrifice for your sins. And he’s not letting us just do as we please and expect to enter his sinless Heaven..Salvation is as simple as the thief that hung next to him when he said “Remember Me “ Notice that’s not a prayer of repentance, but Jesus’s reply was, This day you shall be with me in paradice….So daily my prayer is Lord, Remember me.
I hope these words have been an encouragement to you and that you will find it in your heart to except and trust the one that loves you more than you’ll ever know, and that’s Jesus Christ himself.

There is a day that’s coming
And it is just around the bend
When everything that you've known
Will come right to an end
You will witness things
That you've never seen before
Like babies disappearing
Disaster, guns and war
Never have we seen
Such nationwide distress
and turmoil is among us
There's no peace and there's no rest
You can read it in your Bible
God say's it very plain
In the final last day's
before he comes again
you will see destruction
And much terror in the land
it's time we get a grip
On God's unchanging hand
I believe in One God
every morning, night and noon
and most of all my Friend
I believe He's coming "Soon"

We start a journey each new day
Not knowing what will come
As we begin each new day
At rising of the sun
Sometimes happy things occur
Sometime we are sad
Situations right and left
We take the good and bad
Disappointments come and go
Mixed with doubt's and fears
Then we have those hurting times
Our eyes release the tears
Some day's theirs friends
Who will come to call
Other days you look around
And see no one at all
But let me tell you something friend
It's life, that's all it is
And when it's all been said and done
We just begin again

As a child I loved to sing
And play piano too
I loved to sing the hymns
The old ones and the new
Then Southern Gospel came along
And oh how sweet the sound
I started traveling on a bus
I've seen so many town
I'd see the people stand each night
To praise and clap their hands
You could really feel his presence
The feeling was so grand
As I look back upon those days
Where many souls were won
I'm thankful that the Lord chose me
And let me sing God's songs

When my spirit is low I know where to go
For comfort and peace and rest
He is so loving and willing to hear
My petitions as I pray and confess
Why would I go to anyone else
For it's God in Heaven who knows
He is the friend who's closer to me
What wonderful love he betows
When I seek his face
He so willingly makes
His presence so real to me
He say's come and dine, put your hand in mine
Let me draw closer to thee
I'll be a comfort to your weary soul
A light in your darkness to see
I will show you the way, seek me this day
I'm everything you need me to be
Make me your choice and please do not fear
For I am truly with you this day
My child do not doubt, for I'll bring you out
Take my hand and I'll lead the way

Gabriel has a trumpet
Which he's about to blow
God say's to him get ready
I'm calling my children home
Now no man knows the day
Nor the hour when this will be
But brother just look around you
And you will surely see
Perilous times are here
We live in such distress
I don't know how we've gone this far
Were in an awful mess
I look to Heaven's clouds each day
Our redemption draweth nigh
Surely he will soon appear
In the eastern sky

Nature holds such beauty
For our eyes to see
I love walking in the forest
Seems God's spirit is with me
Such splendor all around
A tapestry so great
No one but God
Could such a thing portrait
The birds the blooms
The sky above
Pour out our Saviors love
Only he could make such wonders
And send them from above
Yes I love all nature
And the wonders that it shows
And how and where it all began
Only God in Heaven knows

Joy comes in the morning
After a long night
Things seem so much better
When we see the light
We worry we fret
Our stress is so high
While all along
Our Savior is nigh
He knows our thoughts
before we ask
And your situation
To Him is no task
He has the answer
Just wait and see
And if you wait in Faith
He'll bring Victory
So my dear friend
Just heed my warning
God's in control and
