The community stirred, When a break-in occurred, At the house by the old clock tower The thief fled the scene, Having picked the place clean, In just under half of an hour Jumping Jack lost His strange wind-up box And wore an expression sour, The Little Boy Blue Lost his little toys too Which he'd hidden beneath the shower Each room was left scant, Purloined of house plants, The wiring sapped of its power So heed my advice, Check all your locks twice, Or once every half an hour S.R. The Break-in
Years slip by on deft and silent footsteps, And as in times of laughter among friends, So too in times of quiet retrospect Does the song of your sweet voice resonate Outward, starting from the depths of my heart, Then reaching the lofty sanctum of thought Shaken are the stalwart walls of reason, Rationality stems emotion's tide, And pangs of nostalgia overwhelming, Reminders of your presence, lay behind S.R.

Somewhere the sun is setting In your tired eyes Somewhere a cool breeze carries Songs of changing times Somewhere you're getting by, Flushed with words of wine, Somewhere a fool laments That he never called you "mine" S.R. August 13, 2014

Reunion at the Horse Track
Did the blessed skies not shed Their bleary gray for sunny blue? Did the winter usher not The spring and life anew? Did the robin not return to sing Despite the heights it flew? Then the love you gave lives here, In a heart that still beats true S.R. March 8, 2020
