It’s crazy how the smell of exhaust
As I walk through a busy intersection
Can remind me of you.
Damp streets beneath my boots
As headlights highlight my path,
The smell of a city that never stops living
And with each step I am one foot closer to you
Light rain taps me on the shoulder
And street signs greet me with welcoming suggestion
Pointing me toward more familiar pathways
Leading straight into the home I’ve made within your arms.
