A frozen heart thawed
from a mile away
by the deep midnight shades
that you cast where I lay.
Broken hopes to adorn
quite a lovely display,
painting indigo rain
to reverse my decay.

Cornflower blue
from a broken heart’s song
paints the deep midnight glow
as it gives way to dawn.
For across the gray plains
comes a sorrowful sight
filled with indigo silence,
one last nod to the night.

A long night’s silence
locked away behind a door,
cobwebs sleeping on the handle,
blood reflecting off the floor.
Should you dare to steal a peak
through the broken glass panes,
you won’t be shocked to discover
a bare and broken heart’s remains.

Frayed knots
and broken thoughts
dance gravely through my mind -
dreams bound before me,
freedom stolen,
never to be mine.
I watch the world
sing choirs softly,
music to be felt -
but all I feel
is chains wound tight,
the cards already dealt.

Over a field laid barren,
on the wind came your call;
high above our hands touching,
the sun watching us fall.
It’s witness to our dance,
our broken heart’s choir;
it gives us a taste
of the flames for our fire.

I notice the strings you pull,
the ones unbound
in a forgotten corner of my soul.
A string unthreaded,
another one unraveled,
one to fill the space between you and I.
Thread by thread,
somewhere in between moments shared,
I became yours.

It seems nature’s dance,
both unserious and unbound,
tends to mimic the rhythm
that between us we found.
It pushes and pulls
like the moon’s subtle glare,
washing up on the shore
what was once never there.

In the branch of a tree,
in the petal of a flower,
in a grain on the beach,
life exists in an hour.
It exists in a laugh,
in a melancholy sob,
in a mind’s fleeting thought
or a broken heart’s throb.

Earth, split my insides open
and watch my simple colors pour,
drink the rainbow from my blood
and shield your eyes from my core.
Oh heaven, read my lips
and shelter dreams from the storm,
watch me float from tending arms
and land me in my final form.

Dancing on a racing breeze,
my feet forget the ground -
they flutter vacant,
thoughts in flow -
they make no subtle sound.
But planted on the earth’s soft grass
the wind breathes through my core,
bringing aching colors
to the light -
a dream, a wish for more.
