Yellow is the warmth I feel in your presence
Yellow is the strength I find in the kindness of a stranger
Yellow is the hope I find when my foot meets the edge for the hundredth time
It is the grace I'm shown even at my worst
Boy, if every time I earned a dime
The way the sun brings my soul to life with golden rays
Yellow is the blessing of living this rich life with you from April to all through May.

My eyes have seen the sunrise countless times
I've seen countless shades of gold and auburn paint our skies
Yet nothing fills me with more life than the specific flicker of gold staring back at mine
Warmth floods my senses and to my surprise I wish I could capture this moment in time
As the sky meets the stars at a days finish,
I find myself trying to comprehend how I could ever pretend this chapter will come to an end
Forever burned in my memory,
Is you.
The flame I failed to tend.

When I look at you
Through teary eyes
If I squint, I can see a shimmering glint to no surprise
And mystical magic feels as though it fills the air
From that rich smile that you wear
Where there are no witnesses I stop and stare;
Prisoner to the product of this poems despair
In this fantasy land, sadness is pushed down in the wake of your presence
Where I'm reminded of the true gold outside of this emotional warfare.
