65/M/East of Eden Although I was born a white heterosexual male, I have invested serious effort in trying to overcome that unasked-for advantage and just be human like the rest of you.
You hid it well--- I couldn't tell Until it was too late. I went through Hell. Resigned to Fate I tried to sate Your constant growling need Or else abate Your lust. You feed On the heartseed Of my soul. Dark and fell, I take no heed. I'm already dead. You bled me that way.

Wrong Turn
The moment passed--- You failed to grasp it As it slipped Quietly away from you Into the eye of the evening Now she sits Beyond your reach As darkness moves up From the earth To fill the sky And leave its mark Upon your heart

Moment Past
On this late June morning, As distant thunder shakes the window panes And the grey sky rolls quietly by, I find myself stuck in a pool of time, Swirling quietly round in a brief respite From the ongoing rush and rapids of life The mistakes in my years are remote yet visible, Like a mountain range in a rearview mirror. They recede, but they do not dimish. The future is still misty and veiled. I don't know where the road is going, Though I know where I want it to go. How many times must I play "Harvest Moon" and "A Thousand Years" Before you catch on? Outside, the rain has started.

Echoes of Thunder
There will be time enough later To explore the undiscovered country. Stay with me a while yet, on these familiar shores; Let us continue to gather, together, what sweetnesses that are here to be had, For without you, there are no sweetnesses

Lines Composed a Few Feet Outside the ICU August 28th 2025
Her eyes scream silver carnage, The glitter of white death, The glare of shining ice In the gloom of coffee shop forenoon. Clouds obscure the sun As pain destroys his lungs, Searing orb light Scrapes his face, Freezing rips his flesh. Her glance, The flash of open eyes, Erupts with numbing frost--- The unknown heat of burning foreign gales Sweeps through him. Tearing swift and silent From her glossed and pale eyes, A solid sheet of lightning, earthbound, dances, Scorching ice--- Flickering, unleashing sombre brooding lustre. Sparkling silence in the peaceful calm Compresses, folds, collapses, Forcing air to leave his chest In desperate surrender... Borne on frenzied rivers of the rushing light, She pulls him under, Tows him down--- The crushing pressure of her eyes can **** Don't look away Or stop to breathe Or break the pearl spell--- The crystal bond In half dead light Above our coffee cups. Some more mocha java, My chickadee?

Clouds In My Coffee
Dancing on the edge of oblivion with you, Waltzing, whirling drunkenly Like children intoxicated with motion--- I see your eyes searching mine, Sparkling with possibility--- As if to ask, "Are we really here?" If there is an answer, It's been driven from my mind--- Erased by the icy blast at my back Every time I swing too near to the abyss. My face and limbs are warmed by blood, And you grip my hands Just a little tighter, laughing nervously. Don't worry. Let my manic smile reassure you--- I'm not going anywhere without you--- And if you start to fall, I'll pull you back--- Or failing that, I'll take the long plunge with you, Holding on for your dear life As we pirouette into the void. But let us not consider falling Tonight, For Now I am more than happy, Dancing on the edge of oblivion with you.

Dancing On
Sometimes the afternoons drag on--- Yesterday was a haze of smoke, Cigarettes and coffee--- And the radio plays Jazz--- The air gets blurred sometimes With cigarette smoke and sax Thinking of you Makes the afternoons go by faster Until they blend into dusk, And then evening--- Evenings without you But I don't care It doesn't matter It doesn't mean anything to me It's just that smoke Gets in my eyes

When You Realize What You Had
The world keeps turning, The sun keeps rising, Cold wind blows from over the horizon, Blows across the planet to smite me. Getting dressed this a.m. in the boreal dark I heard an AM station from Chicago--- Driving to work in the arctic morning I listened to a song about Brooklyn--- After another fight with her last night, A fight whose icy silent echoes shadow me yet, I look out a half blinded window At a sky whose shade of blue there is no word for And think of you...

When you and I stayed up late; I remember it well, The minutes slipping by in the dark As if to say, "See, There are more important matters to attend. The work will always be here, Trouble always comes around. But THIS, this prodigy, this WOMAN; This MEANS something, I will not have you let it go unmarked. You have been given a GIFT, a Heaven-sent blessing, And to pay attention to us, Mere minutes of time, simple soldiers of the day, When your eyes should be fixed on Eternity's bringer, Shimmering with possibility unbounded and beckoning you onward To those fragrant fields of Promise and Hope; To bow to the trivial And not heed the miraculous gift of Spirit you have been offered Is to insult the giver of the gift. Don't. Do not. We weary of teaching you. You know how to walk, you've done it before; So release us from your stunted somnambulistic shuffle; We would rather you follow this Dancer of Delight, This Vision of Veracity and this Teller of Truth As she marks the rhythms of your heart With her simple sly soft secrets, Than to be 'honored' With yet another day's plod to the endless ocean And pretense of obeisance to mindless detail. See! She waits for you, but her patience is patched and careworn; Bring her the gowns and garments and graces, That her glamour may shine all the more With the timelessness you need and the worship you must bring to her." And so we kept our conversation going, and going, and going… I was not ready to close out this thread, my smile all the stronger for what we had said.

Slipping through the veil of night Beneath the far-flung skies, She flutters like a sail in flight--- She feeds her frail heart’s delight--- She turns to hail the morning light Beneath the star-hung skies Aurora, in Her cloak of grey Sweeps back the shifting dark--- As dawn reveals the stroke of day And nighttime goes it's smokey way--- The sky's deep blue now broken, frayed, Sweeps back the lifting dark
