Casino Love

They tell you you're not ready
Dont jump in with both feet
They dont know just how you feel
Or what you truly need

They think they have the answers
And they try to give advice
They say you'll fall in love again
To just give it some time

You listen to their every word
But feel its bad advise
You think you know just what you need
So you decide to roll the dice

The first time that you start to play
You feel a love that grows within
A remembered joy of something new
That you think will never end

The love you feel may last awhile
But then come crashing down
You have given all you had to love
Yet still true love's not found

You realize they were somehow right
And that they knew just what to say
They had seen the future in the cards
And still you want to play

Now they say to go and just have fun
Play the hand that you are delt
Dont worry about the loss you had
For true love will win out

Poem Block

Have you ever had a poem block
Where you dont know what to write
When every word that you put down
Seems somehow not to rhyme

You try to push through it
Come up with perfect lines
Then erase the words you just put down
And start over one more time

You know that it will come to you
If you simply clear your mind
You must just allow the words to flow
And write them line by line

If you get a poem block like me
Write about it in a rhyme
Dont worry cause we've all been there
So just give it some more time

Just been a long long week and the good ones are getting lost inside my head. I need to find my groove but other things are on my mind.

Actions

Sometimes we listen to what others may say
And still we never change our ways
We think our actions wont hurt someone
But are actions cause harm in more ways then one

They say that they love us and ask us to change
We say that we hear them and then walk away
We think that our actions are ours all alone
Not knowing our actions can cut to the bone

Remember your actions may harm those you love
And push them away and make them give up
Love is not certian to have and to hold
True love will die if we let it go cold

Actions hurt feelings and cause deep scars within
Scars that stay with us although faded from skin
Some scars will heal and let us forgive
While others are lessons that we must re-live

Some actions define you and stay with you for life
Some actions forgiven and forgotten in time
Listen to others when they give advice
For changing your actions may change a life

Listen To Your Feelings

Have you ever met somebody
That you know you just dont like
Right away you get a feeling
That somethings just not right

You think it's just a feeling
That soon will go away
But the feeling just gets stronger
No matter what they say

It's a feeling that you just cant shake
One thats deep within your soul
A feeling that makes you say
Something here is wrong

You must listen to your feelings
For they'll guide you to whats right
Those feelings that are in you
They may someday save your life

The Dotted Line

I thought the pain was over
Time has made our love so cold
And now the house where we once lived
Is in contract to be sold

Its been two years since I saw you
And I know you're no longer mine
But they say we both must be there now
To sign the dotted line

I couldn't help but feel the pain
As you walked into that room
The silence was so very loud
As I stopped and looked at you

They put the forms in front of us
And pointed where to sign
To the left I saw my name in bold
Just below that dotted line

To the right I saw a new name
One I didnt recognize
For you took his name a year ago
And you left my name behind

That house where we once planned our life
Has now been sold to someone new
I watched as they received the keys
And hid my sadness from your view

Now this is the last I'll see you
The final ending of our time
For today we signed two different names
Just above that dotted line

Well this one is just for me,  A way of release and I hope it brought you in to feel the story.

Realize
( Domestic Violence)

Only when we stop and think
Do we then realize
That the pain we cause to others
Can be seen within their eyes

We think that what we say and do
Wont hurt the ones we love
We must realize our actions
Are seen from up above

We say things out of anger
And expect them to forgive
Not knowing the true danger
Or the fear that they must live

When we strike out in anger
And our actions hurt someone
We create a brand new danger
That is seen by more then one

Know, others see your actions
And your words are heard by all
You may try to hide the pain you cause
But soon the walls will fall

For it's only when we stop and think
That we then realize
That the pain we cause to others
Can be seen within their eyes

Carl Joseph Roberts ( Joe)

We see domestic violence so often and sometimes say nothing. Neighbors hide behind the walls and we hear but do not see what is going on inside. Sometimes we think that it will all work out if we do nothing at all. But if you look into that persons eyes you will see the fear and pain that they have. Take the time and simply make a call. Let the police know for without you we cannot see it all.
Ben Rhoades "Carl Sagan and Sigmund Freud..."

Creeping out of my head
they're sprawled across the floor
all hopes are dead
and laying there.

I have no want to go back to school,
although knowledge has always been my passion.
I can't even recall facts that I used to know,
like the creases on the back of my hand,

Music would radiate from my room
Either the guitar
the record player
or my computer would blast ballads
of love and of hate
but I can't even remember a single song
by the Foo Fighters.

And I used to know them all.

There is no love of knowing like there used to be
no drive for novels
short stories or poems,
I don't know how I am going to manage
the creativity that my life
will desire from my brain.

every desire to trip on acid
or philosophize like
Carl Sagan and Sigmund Freud...
or both

Dead as letters on this keyboard.

I used to be bright, long haired and free
I knew just about everything
and would be up to try anything,
but something happened and now
its flowing through the cracks,

I wanted to be cool
I wanted to be new
a smart boy,
with secrets of which
only some knew.

brain dead and sad
all my life draining
and I don't know what to do.
Now I'm a corpse
in a shallow grave,
if two feet above the my dreams
and queen sized
is shallow

This is not a love poem

This is not a love poem
Like most of mine are
It is more a poem of love
For who you really are

You are so sweet to listen
To my past hurting  love
That I wanted to say thank you
And give a written hug

You have responded to my poems
When you thought I was in need
And offered just to listen
If just to comfort me

I know that you're not near to me
But the distance isnt far
For two hearts, once broken
Are never far apart

For this is not a love poem
Like most of mine are
It is a poem saying thank you
You helped heal a broken heart

Carl J. Roberts

This is for those who have reached out to try to comfort. Please know that I have moved forward and my past love/hurt poems are from memories of the past. Thank you.

You Do This

What do you do when it's not there
And its no where to be found
What do you do when no one cares
And there are no friends around
What do you do when life gets tough
And you think you've had enough
What do you do when love is gone
And you know it wont come back

You find whats there and make it work
For you know it was never lost
You care for them in a time of need
And never worry about the cost
You show them that, you've been there too
And that you know how hard it is
Then you go out, find someone new
And fill your heart with bliss

True love from inside

Know that love is never certain
As you look back on the past
True love is not just given
It takes work to make it last

There is no rush to find the one
For in time the one will come
We can wait and let true love grow
But when grown the works not done

We grow older and we realize
That true love just takes time
We realize what really counts
Is the love we feel inside
