Before you judge, ask why is it this way?
Listen to them, take it in is what I’d advise
All lives matter is what you say?
Could you please try and hear their voice?
Kindness could eventually beat this hate

Listen to their cries, worries and fear
Is that really what you want to hear?
Violence and mistreatment happens
Energy & positivity is the way to go
Stand up tall & lift your hands up in the air

Maybe if black lives matter then all lives will
Are you ready to take part?
To show the world the fire that is in your heart
To fight against the prejudice and malice?
Each person should unite and fight
Remember to lift your hands in the air

For over 300 years I have been victimized for the color of my skin.
The skin that I have been dipped in chocolate and honey for,And hanged out in the sun to dry.
I've seen people like myself face death because of their sun kissed skin.
Lost in history's wars.

In the past 300 years I have faced ridicule for my kinks and coils.
Forced to tie it out of existence,
And comb it to perfection.
Told to "keep it neat if you want to be here"

You see they kicked me out of institutions for the pride that I was born with.
Fired me from behind desks because my hair wasn't "fit for the work place".
The melanin of my skin has made many melancholic toward me.
They clutch their purses after beating us to death.

We are not taking away your culture,
Rather we are protecting ours.
Because all you do is strip us of our dignity,
And treat us less than we should be.

As for the past 300 years, I am set free from your  physical chains,
Yet still held accounted for things according to my skin color.
Slavery may have ended, but we are still trapped at mindset.
Know your roots.

I took a break from poetry
My brain became flooded with words
I nearly drowned
Swimming with fishes and sharks
In a river of silence
Melodies in my head were loud
I just needed to breathe
Air out this room of drawings pictures and ideas
By down scribbling a few metaphors

A dark place total blackout everything felt
Darkness travelling at light speed
Empathetically thinking about black lives
Factually disregarding skin colour but every life matters
Writing about it makes me more sadder

Darkness is a word needing light to be seen
Light is nearby and colour makes it beautiful
Hope is circling your sky with clouds brother
The stars are making your moon bright sister
And red is our theme babe

I missed writing because I see my heart in these sequels

after centuries and centuries and centuries of:
pain and suffering,
chains and ankle cuffing,
segregation and impossible laws,
human degredation and deaths for the cause,
coloured lines and last picks,
work in the mines and barbie-like wigs,
culture termination and the education of self-hate,
fake freedom motivation and penitentiary execution dates,
community sabatoge and destruction of black owned schemes,
settle down for hip hop dialogue and basketball dreams
racial slurs and monkey metaphors,
television blurs and the world shutting doors,
the white man's drugs and melanin filled prisons,
talent that lacks funds and vietnam missions,
death of our black icons and imprisonment of mandela
death of trayvon and others on the death list which could go on forever...

do you have the right to tell "bottom barrels" not to dream to be on the top?
do you wonder why forgiveness is slowly yielding in the world, as if it sees a sign that says it's time to stop?

do they not say we must practice what we preach?
are they not preaching hate?
are they not preaching inequality?
are they not preaching the false levels of life?

is it too hard for the world to practice equality?
is it too hard for the world to live in harmony?
is it too hard for the world to see the similarities in our differences?
is it too hard for the world to live without fear of colours?

is it too much to ask for peace???
