When I look in the Mirror

When I look in the mirror
The sounds quiet down
Into a murmur,
          a hiss

Creeping up my neck
The tongue cut in half,
As it marks my skin

When I look in the mirror
I cannot see through
The veneer

Sprinkled over my corneas
Like cinnamon.
