What Am I?

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask the druggie with a vial
You're an addict - he says
You're addicted to pain.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask the artist for a style
You're a cubist - he says
You're all chopped up.
But you're not a dadaist
You stand for something.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask the priest on his shrine
You're an anomie - he says
You have no faith In anything.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask my shrink to check his files
You're dysfunctional - he says
Thats why you're not institutionalized.
Only normalcy is pathologized.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask my mother and she sighs
You're my baby - she says
But you think too much
You need to come back to earth
Space is for aliens.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask my astrologer for a sign
You're a pisces - he says
You're deluded.

What am I?
Turn the dial
Ask the scientist for a voltaic pile
You're an anode - he says
You're completely corroded.

What am I?
Do I really care?
Will people tell you
What you really want to hear?
5 degrees more
And the dial spins its view
But no-one can know
You - Like you do.
