Out of the Night

You’re right, of course
about everything...
and my heart
goes boom in the night.
There’s a slip in the ship
and never the twain shall meet..
Perplexed mind
underscoring
the uncertainty.
Sleepless nights and
restless days and weeks
and months and years,
and yes, even decades...
Festering fear and
harboring discord and
unfortunately,
hatred of times gone by..
Forgetting the good,
the positive,
and yes, even the growth,
that we both knew
and loved and shared
a long time ago...
Quietly, without celebration,
the past disappears
into the future of hope.
