Once

I once was little
With a pure mind and heart,
Clear vision with plenty of light;
Sunshine promised it'll
Keep her eye on me,
That lucky I could be.

I once was lucky
To have you beside myself
Out of a dusty shelf;
Even when it was mucky,
I remember how I wore
Bright smiles galore.

I once smiled,
Looking into your eyes,
Resembling the blue skies;
It was humble and wild,
It was tender and achy
My heart was once flaky.

I once shed a tear,
It was a drop for you,
A painful one too;
I look but there's nothing here,
As if you ever were,
You have gone and left a blur.

I once knew to love
Expecting none in return,
But now my wick does burn;
There's no straw above,
Come, please come to me,
Come once and set me free.
