Goodbye My Summer Home

Another summer has come and gone
But this I must say goodbye to my summer home.
The smell of chlorine, the sunshine, the friends,
And the friendly and at times comical lap swimmers
Goodbye my summer home.

For work or play I was happy to be there
Over the years the life guards have changed
Some you knew, some you didn’t, and maybe
One of them was you in the guard chair.
Goodbye my summer home.

The guards are laughing, playing blowing their whistle,
Yelling the rules, and smiling while watching over you.
The slide with its yellow stair case leading
Leading to the top,
Where the slide slithers down
With water flowing like a river
Goodbye my summer home.

Spending countless hours there with my friends
And making new friendships too
Always enjoyed talking with the lap swimmers
Who always had something nice to say
And asked how you were doing
Goodbye my summer home.

But now you are gone
Being turned into something new
Won’t be back next year
So until you open your new gates
Goodbye William L. Welch pool
Goodbye my summer home.
