Everlasting

If one day I were to
rip the trees from their roots
out of the earth's soil
and toss them around
like weightless twigs,
I’d make sure you were
hidden far beneath
the ground's surface.
If I was ever to wickedly
strike down the oh so
heavily traveled path of man
with lightening from the sky,
I’d make sure to miss
the trail of footsteps you’d
make as you’d reach a haven.
If one day I awoke
with the desire to drown
all the lands with crashing waves
from each raging deep blue sea,
I'd make sure to grace your
lungs with the essential ability
to breathe in liquid air.
If one hour it pleased me to
to make each layer of this
quite delicate planet
tremble to its very core,
Id make sure to find you
the stillest patch of
cozy green grass to
nap on until it subsides.
Yes my dear it seems quite clear
that if one day I thought to
engulf all of humanity and its'
habitat with the hottest flames
that were born from hell itself,
I'd make sure that the many
scorching tongues of fire
never did more than lick
at your heels.
