Envelope

Singing a melody to the bright lights in my head
I’ve been working all week so I stole a day off
Just to wear myself out being wild with loss
I’m drawing similarities to calm my anguished features
I just want to live up to what you consider enough
Not that the judgement will ever be up to you
Leave that to the substance, the weight on my skull
The inevitable tunnel we’ve all got to go through

When this is all done,
Will it have been enough?
To seal me in an envelope
Addressed to the abyss
