August Falls

August:
the seasonal lick of green off of leaves,
persuading them to shimmy down
from there - from their high chairs-
and float, for a few seconds longingly,
to crisp ground where they wait
to slowly disintegrate
under crouched toes of beasts
and the aggressive pressures
of a not so steady rain.
