You belong here,
he carelessly said,
but in my happiness
I forgot to ask where?
Title is temporary
Why do you take beautiful things
and turn them into instruments
of sadness?
I.
Every winter
I become an answering machine
of unread messages.

II.
Why does it take so long
for me to remember that
the other side of the bed has been colder
for years?

III.
This sadness will last forever.

It is not enough
to have known her.
(She was near the ocean).
It is not enough to hold
in the mind each pattern
on each petal
(a Summer flower).
To love is to believe
that Summer persists!
But this is not the order
of living-
She is momentary,
like all things.

I could never fully belong to any one person
i was made
painfully aware of myself
painfully apologetic
painfully
i try.

I prayed
and I was given
but I told God it was not to be

I took
what was not given

He will be back to claim her from me
if He wills it, it will be

You're trying your best

to re-write the stories

paint over the pictures

erase the love letters

but i wish you wouldn't.

Just draw something new

so i know you're doing okay

and write again

like i know you can

and let the tattoos

of the good and bad

remain.

Dear Beautiful Sunflower,

Here’s to the ones that remember
what kind of ice cream you like
and bring it to you on those lonely nights
(even though you told them in passing
ages ago in a fleeting moment).
To the ones that nod to you in a group of people
and make eye contact when your
input seems to be overhwhelmed.
To the ones who keep their promises,
no matter how big or small.
To the friends who will put away
their pride and their projects to come help you.
To the ones who love you unapologetically.
Thank you for calling me out
when I'm too ******* myself.
Thank you for spoiling me when I've fallen
and encouraging me when I stand again.

Without wax,
Someone Who Can't
Say "Thank You" Enough*

P.S. One day you'll realize how much you brighten people's day.
If you find yourself in these words, I thank you for being a ray of sunshine in our times of darkness.
