Engulfed in darkness,
lying in the stillness of the night.
My head against your chest, I listen to the gentle beat of your heart
and the electric buzz of cicadas singing in the trees.
With every subtle motion, your eyes catch the slivers of moonlight
creeping through the curtains.
Can a person be poetry?
Disgust lives deep in my intestines.
My organs ache when I think of you.
Opposites attract.
An object with a negative charge will attract an object with a positive charge–
Until they touch.
This collision transfers electrons from one object to the other–
Distributing appropriately.
The objects are now equally charged–
And repel each other.

Was that our problem?
We became too close? Collided too hard?
Does this explain why our spark fizzled out?
Why this attraction became repulsion?
Did my desire for intimacy lead to our demise?
Did I miscalculate the consequences of our contact?
Was our embrace the end?
In the midst of forgetting:
1. The scent of rosebuds suspended in softened water
2. The taste of your tears on my lips and your tongue between my teeth
3. The sound of suggestive silence and skin striking skin
4. The feeling of fervent touches and convenient fatigue
5. The sight of your post-*** stillness beneath my sheets
Day fading, bleeding-
night consumes, carnivorous
moon, swallowing sun
In feelings now past, she was my sunrise
Just as stormy seas whether stone to sand,
This love wore thin; words becoming disguise.
Gently mourning a future now unplanned.
Tenderness slowly turns to apathy.
Ocean reaches for the moon; crashing waves.
Dams of kindness yield to brutality,
Flooding thoughts; love sent to watery graves.
Whispered words of want become nothing more.
Fading feelings ask: Does true love exist?
Hearts with open wounds, not broken- just sore.
How many more sunrises will be missed?
Memories, impossible to forget.
Yet, even the most brilliant sun must set.

— The End —
